Spirit of Marion
Restoring a classic wooden craft
Spirit of Marion was built over a two year period and launched in 2015 when she was awarded Runner up in the Classic Boat New Build Awards 2015. She was loaned out and took part in several classic regattas around the Solent.
In 2017 we were informed that the boat had been abandoned in a marina in Hamble and on inspection we found there had been damage to the deck as well as fresh water damage to the lower interior. The rigging had also been cut by way of the main shrouds.
The boat was returned to our workshop and we removed the deck so we could work comfortably on the interior as well as correct the damaged parts of the deck. After carefully checking everything, it was discover that the damage was cosmetic rather than structural. The interior was cleaned and re-painted and the deck replaced with new covering boards.
We also added some longitudinal stringers to the foredeck as well as strengthening the bulkheads with grown oak knees to eliminate any tendency for racking to occur during heavy competitive sailing. Then the deck and deck canvas was replaced and painted. All the brightwork was cut back and revarnished.
The boat is now in pristine condition and awaiting a new owner.
